Position Description The City of Rochester now welcomes applications for Police Officers. Consider this career with the City of Rochester. Both new and lateral officer applications are encouraged.

New officers

are individuals with no or limited policing experience. They may be eligible to be licensed under the rules of MN POST at the time of application having completed all requirements or they may be scheduled to complete their MN POST requirements prior to June 25, 2026.

Lateral officers

are currently employed as police officers, sheriff’s deputies, or state troopers in Minnesota or another state. They have enough experience to begin as RPD officers and complete an expedited training program. Their salary will be based on their individual experience, job knowledge, and level of skill.

2026 wage range is $40.52 to $56.17.

Minimum Qualifications

Possess a valid Minnesota Peace Officer license, be eligible to be licensed by the MN POST Board, or be enrolled in an MN Skills program with a scheduled completion date prior to June 25, 2026; and

Possess a valid driver’s license.

2026 Tentative Timeline for Officer Hiring

Job open for applications – January 5, 2026.

Initial interviews and pre‑employment assessments – Week of February 16.

Second interviews with physical testing – Early March.

Background investigations for advancing candidates – March 16 to April 15.

Conditional offers of employment extended – By April 28.

Medical and psychological assessments – Early May.

New officers begin employment – June 25, 2026.
