Job Overview Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate II performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in relevant research areas. The Associate participates in all aspects of the research process, including investigation, technical testing, validation of results, and reporting findings. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate experimental records, troubleshooting unexpected results, ordering supplies, supporting laboratory operations, maintaining equipment, assisting specialized equipment operation, preparing data for publication or presentation, and orienting junior researchers.
Responsibilities
Perform a variety of increasingly complex experimental protocols and design new complex or unusual protocols and techniques.
Keep accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, and assist in identifying and troubleshooting unexpected results.
Order laboratory supplies and support laboratory operations.
Maintain lab equipment and related records and coordinate use of lab equipment.
Assist in the operation of specialized equipment, as required by the area of research.
Assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
Observe and comply with safety standards and procedures.
Orient research laboratory assistants or lower-level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in a science-related field required.
One (1) year of research laboratory experience required.
Familiar with routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.
Highly motivated and able to work independently.
Superior interpersonal, communication, and organization skills and the ability to work across company disciplines and functional units.
Computer skills including, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple clerical trials and attention to detail.
