Overview

An entry‑level mechanic for the WV Parkways Authority is responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance of a wide range of roadway equipment, including engines, electrical systems, suspension components, brakes, and auxiliary systems. The role requires close supervision during the initial period and a commitment to the security, reliability, and quality of transit infrastructure across the state motor‑way system. Responsibilities

Change engine oil and engine filters (oil, fuel, air) Tune up gasoline engines and change spark plugs Inspect and adjust drive belts, tensioners, and V‑belts Operate diagnostic scan tools and the diagnostic scan tool Aim headlights and change light bulbs Check battery condition, jump‑start, replace as required, and replace fuses Inspect and replace shock absorbers, ball joints, tire rod ends, wheel bearings, and springs Repair flat tires and change brake shoes/pads Bleed brake system, run brake lathe, and change brake fluid Check, replace, and change transmission fluid and filter, and replace drive shaft as needed Check coolant levels, replace thermostat, fan clutch, water pump, hoses, and radiator Inspect and replace exhaust systems, body panels, and paint cover Replace hydraulic hoses, pumps, spinner wheels, auger, plow blades, caster wheels, and plow jack Perform miscellaneous maintenance on small equipment such as mowers, lawn mowers, and weed eaters Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent • Class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) • Completion of a mechanic training course or comparable experience in mechanical maintenance
