is seeking experienced
Cleared Outside Machinists
to support ship maintenance and repair projects at Groton, CT and other local facilities. This role requires a
Secret security clearance , strong mechanical skills, and the ability to meet Oceaneering’s Craftsman standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of shipboard machinery and mechanical systems.
Work with precision tools such as height gauges, calipers, and vibration indicators.
Set up and operate various portable machine tools.
Interpret and apply blueprints, sketches, and specifications.
Conduct testing and inspection of machinery during dock and sea trials.
Collaborate with supervisors and project teams to maintain quality and safety standards.
Qualifications
Secret clearance (Final or Interim)
required.
High school diploma, GED, or graduate of a relevant trade/military school.
Minimum 6 years of experience
as a Marine Equipment Mechanic or Journeyman.
Proficient in hydraulic systems, machinery alignment, and vibration analysis.
Familiarity with shipboard equipment such as propelling machinery, valves, pumps, and auxiliary systems.
Must provide personal toolset (including wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc.) and PPE.
Current
OSHA-10 ,
respirator medical screening , and
DBID
badge required.
Local candidates only
– no travel or per diem.
Period of Performance:
Through 3/31/2025.
Work Schedule:
Monday–Saturday, up to 10 hours/day. Occasional Sunday shifts. Minimum 40 hours/week.

An outside machinist installs and repairs equipment, sets up and handles manufacturing machinery and ensures that production equipment is adequate and functional. The machinist also operates machines manually or through control mechanisms, inspects equipment and materials and communicates with co‑workers, subordinates, and superiors.
Typical Duties
Disassembling or dismantling valves or pumps, inspecting for wear and assessing replacement need, then re‑assembling
Installing stanchions and hand rails for gratings and ladders
Installing piping for steam, exhaust, suction, discharge, heating, and/or refrigeration
Dismantling, inspecting and repairing deck machinery, main engines, generator governors, and/or turbines
Running horizontal and vertical lines for alignment of engines
Overhauling and repairing refrigerating machinery
Education Most outside machinist careers require a high school diploma, as well as training in vocational schools, related on‑the‑job experience, and/or an associate's degree.
Outside machinists usually need one or two years of on‑the‑job experience and informal training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be available.
Qualifications Previous work‑related skill, knowledge, or experience is typically required. Outside Machinists generally have a broad background in diesel repair and maintenance.
