Successful candidates for these positions will temporarily be located at a solar site within the region. Permanent work location will be the Hogeye solar site which is located near Lake Panasoffkee in Sumter County, FL.

Employees at this level manage work with minimal supervision. Incumbents develop advanced skills and work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in using concepts and procedures problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve.

Job Summary
The Renewables Technician is primarily responsible for providing support to multiple PV plant sites located throughout Duke Energy Florida’s service territory on a continual/on‑demand basis, in order to troubleshoot/resolve equipment issues such as emergency repairs, design change requirements, and equipment modifications, and to establish O&M support for new plant(s) start‑up as well as long‑term operation and maintenance. The role includes work scheduling, maintenance, equipment installation, and start‑up support. The position also supports existing equipment performance and reliability, works to support equipment testing schedules, and assigns contracts, technicians, and engineers to appropriate tasks while developing processes to improve O&M output quality.
Responsibilities And Duties
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
Design change requirements and equipment modifications.
Schedule maintenance, installation, and start‑up support.
Support existing equipment performance and reliability.
Support equipment testing schedules and assign contract testers, technicians, and engineers to appropriate tasks while developing processes to improve O&M output quality.
Ensure compliance with all operational, environmental, and other regulatory and policy compliance requirements. Monitor station environmental, health, and safety objectives and ensure they are met.
Provide leadership and accountability to achieve desired safety results (Lock Out Tag Out compliance, safety meeting attendance, contractor oversight, safety policies/procedures, work practices, etc.).
Basic/Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
0–1 years of electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems experience.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or Technical Certification in the electrical field with a year or more experience, preferably in a power plant or related technical industry.
2 years of technical training or military training in electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems.
Working knowledge of power distribution systems.
Previous experience working with inverters, electrical design, Maximo CMMS, centralized SCADA/EMS control systems and associated network devices.
Knowledge of National Electrical Code.
5 or more years of electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems experience.
Working Conditions
Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. Field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
Must be able to work 12‑hour rotating shifts, extended hours, nights, weekends and maintain flexibility as plant conditions and events require.
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as a hardhat, steel‑toed safety shoes, safety glasses, arc flash protective gear.
Must be able to work around rotating equipment, in extreme heat/cold, electromagnetic fields, and be able to climb, crawl, kneel, stand, sit, and walk.
Must live within one hour of a site under their responsibility.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to work in high temperatures and direct sunlight required.
Travel is likely and overnight trips may be required.
Specific Requirements
Successful completion of the MASS test.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight‑rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within the maximum allowed weight loading.
