Materials Manager The Materials Manager supports planning, purchasing, and inventory functions that ensure availability, integrity, and compliance of materials within the medical device supply chain. This role collaborates closely with senior-level Materials Managers, cross-functional teams, and external suppliers to maintain regulatory compliance, manage risk, optimize inventory, and support the full product lifecycle. The position requires strong organizational capability, analytical thinking, and the ability to work confidently in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with FDA, MDR, ISO 13485, and all applicable regulatory standards.
Partner with Quality Assurance to ensure device safety and performance throughout the supply chain.
Qualify and evaluate suppliers for compliance with regulatory standards and quality control requirements.
Conduct supplier audits and verify material and component quality.
Maintain traceability from raw materials through final shipment to support recall readiness.
Identify supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Maintain optimal inventory levels and manage inventory for critical components.
Collaborate with sales and production teams to create accurate demand forecasts.
Oversee safe, compliant transportation of medical devices, including temperature‑controlled logistics.
Manage international shipments, customs clearance, and global trade compliance.
Support supply chain needs from R&D through product retirement.
Assist in launching new products and managing transitions from legacy products.
Promote environmentally responsible sourcing and participate in green initiatives.
Negotiate supplier contracts balancing cost, reliability, and compliance.
Continuously optimize procurement, transportation, and distribution costs.
Utilize supply chain systems and ERP platforms to track inventory, procurement, and distribution.
Support the integration of technologies such as RFID, IoT, or blockchain to improve traceability.
Partner with Regulatory, Engineering, Manufacturing, R&D, Quality, and Legal teams to align supply chain efforts.
Communicate status updates, risks, and material readiness to internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or related discipline.
2–5 years of experience in materials management, supply chain, or relevant roles.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Materials management processes, including:
Forecasting and converting to purchase orders
Tracking and expediting shipments
Resolving damaged shipment issues
Inventory control and invoice reconciliation
Pedigree and traceability management
Vendor and client communication
Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and Visio.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Effective communication and teamwork capabilities.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
