Supplier Development & Performance Manager
Position at Legrand, North America, remote role reporting to the VP of Supply Chain and Sourcing.
Overview The Supplier Development & Performance Manager is responsible for improving supplier capability, performance, cost competitiveness, and operational excellence. The role leads supplier performance management, VAVE initiatives, and Lean projects, collaborating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to achieve cost reduction, quality improvement, delivery reliability, and innovation.
Responsibilities Supplier Performance Management
Define, implement, and manage supplier performance metrics (KPIs) covering quality, delivery, cost, service, and sustainability
Lead regular supplier performance reviews and corrective action plans
Identify underperforming suppliers and drive structured improvement programs
Support supplier segmentation and strategic supplier relationship management
Supplier Development
Assess supplier capabilities and maturity using audits and assessments
Develop and execute supplier development plans aligned with business objectives
Lead cross‑functional teams to improve supplier processes, capacity, quality, and reliability
Support onboarding and development of new suppliers
VAVE (Value Analysis / Value Engineering)
Lead and facilitate VAVE workshops with internal teams and suppliers
Identify cost reduction, design optimization, material substitution, and process improvement opportunities
Drive implementation of approved VAVE ideas while maintaining or improving quality, performance, and compliance
Track, validate, and report VAVE savings and value creation
Lean Projects with Suppliers
Lead and support Lean initiatives (e.g., waste reduction, cycle‑time reduction, inventory optimization) across the supplier base
Apply Lean tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S, SMED, and problem‑solving methodologies
Coach suppliers in Lean principles and continuous improvement practices
Ensure improvements are sustainable and standardized
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Procurement, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Finance teams
Support sourcing decisions with supplier performance and capability insights
Contribute to make/buy decisions, localization initiatives, and risk mitigation strategies
Governance, Reporting & Compliance
Track and report supplier performance, improvement progress, cost savings, and benefits realization
Ensure supplier improvement activities align with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
Support sustainability, ESG, and responsible sourcing initiatives
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, or related field (or equivalent); Master’s degree or professional certifications such as APICS are a plus
Minimum 5 years in supplier development, procurement, supply chain, operations, and/or manufacturing
Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Demonstrated ability in a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge and experience in ERP/MRP systems
Working knowledge of VAVE principles and cost engineering
Strong collaboration, negotiation, and matrix organization management skills
Ability to work with data, KPIs, and performance dashboards
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced organization and balancing multiple priorities
Strong project management skills and ability to influence without authority
Familiar with Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to lead teams
Travel
25% national and international travel expected
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
