About this Position The Recreation Facility Technician position at Portland Park & Recreation is responsible for providing ongoing customer and facility support for a recreation facility, such as set‑up and tear‑down of equipment, basic equipment and facility maintenance, and ad hoc janitorial duties. This position also provides a wide range of basic customer assistance and customer service, and may provide direct support to PP&R programs within the assigned site. Employees receive well‑defined operational guidelines and work under the supervision and support of other higher‑level professional recreational personnel.

Responsibilities

Oversee

daily facility requirements, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and operability of facilities and surrounding grounds.

Work

with common commercial cleaning chemicals while adhering to all safety and SDS precautions.

Inspect

grounds and equipment.

Identify

and remove or minimize hazards.

Set up

and tear down recreation equipment, supplies, and furniture for recreation programs and facility rentals.

Provide

courteous customer service to diverse citizens and facility members.

Have

a basic knowledge of recreational programming.

Maintain

inventory of supplies and facility equipment required for operations and maintenance.

Operate

and maintain various tools and equipment used in and around the facility (hand tools, small power equipment, pressure washing, snow removal).

Provide

traffic safety control, including placing traffic control barricades and directing traffic for special events.

Minimum Qualifications Are Required

Knowledge of recreational programming, facility support, and recreation equipment.

Knowledge of proper janitorial and facility maintenance standards.

Experience maintaining accurate records and completing simple reports.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, both in person and by telephone.

Applicants Must Also Possess

Ability to obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.

Step 2: Minimum Qualification Evaluation – Week January 20, 2026

Hiring bureau will review and select candidates for an interview.

A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
