Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technician – Afternoon Shift
Company: Buckhead & Newport Meat and Seafood
Shift: Monday through Friday and Saturdays if needed, starts at 2:30 p.m. until close.
Job Summary
Monitor Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) support/evaluation programs and inspection/audit procedures to ensure compliance of products and processes to corporate and regulatory requirements at a Sysco Specialty Meat and/or Seafood Company.
Responsibilities
Monitoring of FSQA programs including HACCP Program, sanitation SOPs, pest control, good manufacturing practices, approved supplier program, foreign material control, plant sanitation, chemical control, product quality assurance, FSQA customer complaints, food defense and security.
Assist in employee training of FSQA Programs, Policies, and Procedures.
Assist in implementation of independent FSQA audit program – SQF Audits.
Assist with product evaluations, plant visits, and supplier/customer communication; support temporary or emergency tasks as directed by plant President or GM.
Frequently interact with SSMC/SSSC personnel, Operations, Sales, Transportation, Maintenance, Sysco Operating Companies, and supplier/customer personnel at the line level.
Qualifications
Education : Formal job training in TQM principles, SPC, HACCP concepts, CFIA/FDA regulations beneficial. Formal quality and sensory analysis training helpful.
Experience : 1 to 3 years of meat and/or seafood industry experience at a federal CFIA/FDA meat and/or seafood processing plant (or raw meat/seafood industry experience if alone).
Professional Skills : Ability to write reports, basic business correspondence, present information, respond to questions. Comfort with arithmetic, problem definition, data collection, technical interpretation. Proficient with PC, lab equipment, food prep and office communication equipment.
Certifications, Licenses and/or Registrations : Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands
Must talk or hear regularly; use hands frequently; occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; taste or smell occasionally.
Occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception) required; corrected vision for sensory analysis.
Plant audits and inspections may require lifting products up to 100 pounds, working in a production environment on a moving line, lifting cartons, visual inspection.
Work Environment
Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
Occasionally work near mechanical parts, high/precautionary places; wet/humid conditions, extreme cold, radiation risk.
Noise level usually moderate; operating in a refrigerated environment common.
Remote in-transit processing facilities and Sysco Operating Companies contain moderate/loud noise and exposure to fumes and mechanical hazards.
