Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Corrections Security Director, the Supervising Officer 2 performs highly responsible work with a responsibility for the security, custody, and control of Facility Residents in the institution’s security program. Positions at this level carry major responsibility for supervising security staff and facility residents on an assigned shift, providing security, discipline and order of the institution. This position acts as Chief Security Officer during evening hours and weekends and in the absence of the Security Director as needed.

Salary Information This position is in pay schedule and range 81-34 with a starting pay of $48.33/hour – $55.99/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Employees working in a maximum‑security correctional institution are eligible for a $3/hour add‑on for all hours worked. Employees working at a medium‑security correctional institution are eligible for a $1/hour add‑on for all hours worked.

Job Details Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre‑employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre‑employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

As public safety employees, remote work is not an option for these positions.

These positions have physical requirements including but not limited to: walking, twisting, climbing, standing, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs, etc. These positions are also exposed to a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.

A medical/drug/fitness screening and the DOC Facility Staff Training and Support (FSTS) six‑week academy may be required.

Qualifications Minimally qualified applicants will have training and/or experience:

Performing supervisory activities (e.g. evaluating work; handling disciplinary matters, hiring, etc.).

Responding to and assisting in emergencies such as physical altercations, medical emergencies, and crisis intervention during incidents in a secure environment.

Providing specialized formal training, coaching, or mentorship to others in a group or one‑on‑one setting (e.g. FTO instructor / coordinator, POSC, ERU team leader, Firearms, Security Threat Group, etc.).

In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have training and/or experience:

Participating in multi‑disciplinary teams and/or serving on committees or work groups.

Conducting investigations and coordinating with outside agencies.

Conducting security and/or overseeing inspections throughout an institution.

Evaluating and developing or recommending policies/procedures.
