About NCCS and the Upper School
New Canaan Country Schoolორწis a co-ed, independent day school for students in Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) through Grade 9 living in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Located in New Canaan, CT, and serving 570 students, our mission is to guide students to reach their intellectual, creative, moral, and physical potential. A talented and devoted faculty engages our students in developmentally appropriate ways, delivering a challenging curriculum that builds intellectual skills and fosters creative and critical thinking. The Upper School at Country School serves students in Grades 7 through 9 and provides them with the opportunity to acquire habits of mind and dispositions including collaboration, analytical and critical thinking, communication, perseverance and risk‑taking. The school is now searching for an Upper School Math Teacher to join its faculty in the fall of 2025.
Responsibilities
Conduct a standard load (typically 4 sections) of mathematics courses in Grades 7-9, including planning, instruction, assessment, and reporting as well as being accessible and available to students for support during designated times
Serve as an advisor to a group of Upper School students within a grade‑level advisory team
Serve as head or assistant coach to Upper School teams in multiple seasons
Fulfill additional student‑facing responsibilities of Upper School faculty members, including recess, study hall, clubs and multi‑day trips
Engage in faculty meetings and professional development programs at department, team, division and whole school levels
Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Relevant experience teaching and assessing student learning in Grades 6-9
Ability to teach Pre‑algebra through Algebra II/Precalculus
Ability to connect with students at the middle school age level (12–15 years old)
Desired Qualities
Finds joy in working with 12- to 15‑year‑old students
Differentiates instruction for a range of learning styles and abilities
Is collaborative
Communicates well verbally and in writing
Is organized
Has a commitment to professional growth
Demonstrates cultural competency
