Position The Instructional Designer will play a key role in advancing Roanoke College–Roanoke Valley’s Lifelong Learning initiatives by designing and developing high‑quality, learner‑centered instructional materials and experiences. This hybrid position collaborates closely with the Executive Director of Learning Innovation, faculty, and subject‑matter experts to identify learning needs, define objectives, and ensure content accuracy and effectiveness. The role involves applying best practices in instructional design, adult learning theory, and emerging technologies to create engaging and accessible learning solutions, setting project priorities, maintaining quality and brand standards, supervising student workers, and supporting digital learning efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Executive Director of Learning Innovation, subject‑matter experts, and faculty to identify learning needs, define objectives, and establish content accuracy and effectiveness.

Implement instructional design strategies grounded in educational and industry standards that align with learner needs and organizational goals.

Establish and uphold standards for quality, accessibility, and brand consistency.

Maintain clear goals and priorities for instructional projects and initiatives.

Supervise student workers, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time.

Assist and/or collaborate with RC‑RV Digital Learning Assistant.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in instructional design or related field, or equivalent experience.

5+ years of Instructional Design, Content Development or similar experience.

5+ years of proficiency in ADDIE/SAM, adult learning theory.

Experience in an educational setting preferred.

Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently and manage multiple priorities.

Willingness to learn and grow with a new and evolving college division.
