The

Public Safety Sergeant

is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and assets within the healthcare environment. This role provides leadership, guidance, and operational oversight to Public Safety Officers and Security personnel, promoting a culture of professionalism, accountability, and excellence. Essential Responsibilities

Supervise and lead Public Safety Officers and Security personnel, including scheduling, training, and performance support

Coordinate daily security operations including patrols, access control, surveillance monitoring, and emergency response

Respond to security incidents and emergencies, providing direction to ensure effective and coordinated resolution

Conduct inspections of security equipment, facilities, and procedures; implement corrective actions as needed

Initiate and conduct investigations of incidents, complaints, and security breaches; prepare detailed reports

Assist in training and drills to enhance staff readiness, compliance, and response capabilities

Serve as a liaison with hospital departments, law enforcement, emergency responders, and community partners

Monitor and recommend improvements to security technologies, equipment, and systems

Mentor and model professionalism, integrity, and customer-focused service

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred)

Minimum

5 years of experience

in security, law enforcement, or military roles with demonstrated leadership experience

Strong knowledge of security operations, emergency response, and healthcare safety practices

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills

Ability to remain calm and professional in high‑stress or hostile situations

Proficiency with security technology, surveillance systems, access control, and incident reporting software

Licensure & Certifications

Valid driver’s license (no more than 5 points)

Ability to obtain and maintain required state security licenses

IAHSS Supervisor Level Certification (required within designated timeframe)

CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, and de‑escalation training (post‑hire)

State‑specific licensing requirements apply (MD, DC, or FL depending on location)

Physical & Working Conditions

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8+ hours)

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Ability to restrain or assist with aggressive individuals

Frequent stair climbing, bending, stooping, and reaching

Work in environments with noise, temperature variation, and physical activity

Minimum 26.12/hour - Maximum 35.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
