HVAC Installers are responsible for installing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and other equipment following manufacturer specifications and company requirements. The job entails installing HVAC equipment in customers’ homes, including furnaces, air handlers, indoor coils, UV lights, air cleaners, and dehumidifiers, working under minimum supervision. Installers also install outdoor coils and units, and repair refrigerants, compressors, etc. The role provides training and guidance to HVAC installer helpers.
Essential Functions
Perform installation of HVAC equipment following company policies and manufacturer’s specifications.
Carry out wiring of both low- and line-voltage to cooling and heating equipment.
Install copper refrigerant lines to air conditioning units, including brazing and soldering.
Install flex and sheet metal duct systems in light commercial and residential buildings.
Ensure gas lines to heating equipment are properly connected.
Determine appropriate materials for installation work through pre-measurement.
Receive all materials and equipment required for each job, confirm, and load them into the company vehicle.
Lead lower-level HVAC technicians in troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair.
Develop HVAC system modification plans as needed.
Maintain company vehicle, ensuring cleanliness and organization both inside and out.
Research and select materials for HVAC system installation, repair, and maintenance.
Perform commercial and residential installation of condensers, coils, furnaces, package and rooftop units, mini-split systems, thermostats, high-efficiency air filters, air scrubbers.
Install and/or design ducts for ventilation purposes.
Install and wire high-efficiency systems, zoning, humidifiers, Comfort Guard, and other peripherals.
Ensure quality control on layout, cleanliness, sealing, and overall installation details.
Complete daily assignments/checklists in residential crawl spaces and attics.
Submit required paperwork, including daily time/payroll sheets, in a timely manner.
Teach company-sponsored training classes if needed.
Maintain EPA and NATE certification.
Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
5‑10 years of experience in the HVAC industry as a journeyman installer.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Proficiency with hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
Experience leading and training staff and/or students.
Ability to develop HVAC system modification plans.
Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Complete knowledge of mechanical systems, building materials, and basic building codes related to HVAC.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with a strong desire to exceed customer expectations.
Results-driven in a high-energy environment.
Proficiency with MS Office products and advanced phone apps.
Attention to detail.
Must pass MVR screening and maintain a good driving record.
Must be able to follow directions and work independently.
Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
Physical Activities & Requirements
Physical strength: walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, crawling, stooping, reaching (including overhead), climbing ladders/stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. regularly.
Environment: work in varying temperatures, including non-climate-controlled areas, occasionally with extreme temperatures.
Potential exposure to dangerous materials and situations requiring safety precautions and protective equipment.
Constant exposure to extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
Schedule: available to work nights and weekends on a rotating basis to service emergency needs of customers.
Visual abilities: must correctly differentiate between colors.
