Job Title: Outside Machinist
We are seeking a 1st Class Outside Machinist who holds an active secret security clearance or has had one within the last 24 months. The primary responsibilities include the overhaul and repair of pumps, motors, valves, and other auxiliary equipment. Candidates must provide their own personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, safety glasses, and steel‑toed shoes. The work location is at HII and NNSY in Virginia. Specific submarine torpedo tube or 'sail' experience is required.
Responsibilities
Overhaul and repair pumps, motors, and valves.
Perform open, inspect, and repair work on components of marine sea water, hydraulic, and diesel systems.
Repair and restore propulsion shaft, shaft couplings, or vibration reducers.
Remove, inspect, and repair various fairwater, stern plane, and/or steering & diving system components.
Repair and overhaul ship's weapons and ordinance systems, including torpedo tubes, launchers, and weapons handling equipment.
Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components.
Essential Skills
Experience as a Machinist Mate or Engineman.
Secret or Confidential Security Clearance.
Experience with marine, valves, pumps, and mechanical systems.
Troubleshooting skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Specific experience with submarine torpedo tubes or 'sail'.
Experience with gas turbine mechanics and gunners mate.
