Sacramento County
Positions in the Safety Technician class provide specialized paraprofessional and administrative support to safety and occupational health programs in the Department of Personnel Services. The Safety Technician reports to a higher‑level safety position and provides technical support under direction. The class may conduct routine training and minor accident investigations. Unlike the Safety Specialist, the Technician performs less complex safety duties and works with lower independence.
Knowledge of
General safety practices, policies, and procedures.
Grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary.
Basic mathematics for calculations and averages.
Computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
Ability to
Learn safety rules and regulations.
Deal tactfully with people.
Keep work records and prepare reports.
Read, write and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance.
Provide effective training.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years experience in a Sacramento County advanced journey level clerical class.
Two years experience in a lead or supervisory capacity in a field or maintenance position.
An AA degree or 60 semester units, including at least 12 units in science from an accredited college or university.
Note:
“Experience” means full‑time paid experience unless volunteer experience is expressly allowed. Part‑time paid experience may be accumulated and prorated to meet the total experience requirements. General Qualifications
Driver’s License:
Possession of a valid Class C or higher California Driver’s License is required at appointment. Failure to maintain the license may be cause for disciplinary action. Those with a disability will be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
Physical Abilities:
Mobility in a typical office setting, use of standard equipment, vision, speech, and ability to lift and carry up to
listed pounds.
Probationary Period The probationary period for this classification is six months.
