Transportation Engineer - PE Roadway

Position Information
DGL is looking for a Civil Engineer to enhance the capabilities and qualifications of our Roadway Department. As a multi‑disciplinary engineering firm, success in this position will require an individual to use prescribed methods, standard techniques and practices to perform various engineering assignments. Our goal is to provide an environment for engineering professionals to learn, grow and master necessary skills to succeed in a fast‑paced and challenging environment.
Will work in the roadway department
4–8 years of previous experience in civil design engineering
Full‑time position
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assist roadway team with production duties such as plan preparation, design detailing, drainage calculations and reports, bid documents and cost estimates
Design tasks may include pavement design, horizontal and vertical design, closed and open drainage system design and BMP design, quantity and construction cost determination
Involve in client meetings, respond to RFIs and assist in proposal preparation
Assist with oversight of entry‑level engineers and budgeting of work tasks
Assist with calculations, record keeping
Keep direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns
Communicate with leaders to understand project scope and coordinate with engineers on project requirements
Apply design standards, standard drawings, and CAD requirements for DOT and local agencies
Engage in periodic industry events and related marketing activities
Skill Set
Experience with applicable computer software (Open Roads Designer, ProjectWise, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam)
Design and plan preparation experience based on DOT and other municipality’s specifications and preferred standards
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Ability to work and balance priorities amongst multiple projects
Outgoing, self‑motivated, collaborative team player
Proven success in delivering high quality project submittals
Professional demeanor
Overtime hours may also be requested depending on project workloads and submittal deadlines
Education / Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑Accredited institution
Engineering Intern (E.I.) certification with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license within 6 months or current registered PE in good standing
