WSP is currently searching for a
Geomatics Project Manager
to join our Midwest Region Geomatics Team in
Detroit, MI . This position plays an important role in delivering surveying and geospatial solutions for a variety of projects, supporting Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy, and other sectors.
The successful candidate will manage project delivery, support business development, and mentor staff while ensuring technical quality and client satisfaction.
Impact The role focuses on several areas of impact, including:
People and Culture: Provide guidance and mentorship to office and field staff; support team development through training and knowledge sharing; promote a culture of collaboration, safety, and technical excellence.
Clients: Maintain strong client relationships, assist in proposals, scopes, schedules, budgets, manage billing and account receivables, support business development, identify growth opportunities.
Expertise: Manage geomatics projects (boundary, topographic surveys, LiDAR mapping, UAS, GIS); oversee production, QA/QC; leverage software; ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
Operational Excellence: Coordinate crews, maintain tracking systems, manage equipment and staff, collaborate with subconsultants, support recruitment, perform additional responsibilities, uphold ethical conduct and company policies.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in land surveying or an associated field.
7-10+ years of experience in land surveying and geospatial services.
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in Michigan.
Proven leadership, team‐building, communication skills.
Experience managing schedules, budgets, staff, and equipment.
Proficiency with CAD and survey data processing software.
Strong knowledge of land survey principles and practices.
Ability to work independently and lead teams effectively.
Willingness to learn and teach others.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; detail oriented, organized and responsive.
Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, especially on high liability projects.
Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree.
Multiple PLS licenses in neighboring states.
FAA Part 107, CP/CMS, GISP, or PMP certifications.
Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation Open Roads Designer, Leica Infinity or Trimble Business Center, Esri ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience performing a variety of geomatics work in both field and office, especially in the Upper Midwest area with public agencies and private organizations.
Experience preparing estimates and proposals, participating in business development, and managing billing and account receivables.
Existing client base.
