Job Summary Perform floor technician and a variety of custodial duties at NASA Langley in an efficient and effective manner under the supervision of a crew leader, supervisor, or Project Manager. This work will be performed at the Langley Research Center.
Examples Of Essential Functions
Perform specified floor custodial work according to time schedules which may include:
Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors.
Polishing, stripping, buffing and waxing floors.
Shampooing carpets and spot removal.
Extracting water and disinfecting water‑damaged carpets.
Move furniture when performing floor custodial work.
Perform custodial work in occupied and unoccupied buildings according to the specified contracted methods of cleaning.
Cleaning responsibilities include:
Removal/disposal of trash.
Cleaning of offices including dusting, vacuuming, carpet spot removal, and/or sweeping.
Cleaning of restrooms including mopping, disinfecting, cleaning mirrors, partitions, toilets, and sinks. Stock paper and soap supplies.
Vacuum, mop, wipe down walls in cleanrooms.
Select cleaning products, mix and measure chemicals as required.
Properly dispose of any hazardous waste material.
Maintain supplies and equipment under established procedures.
Set up and break down furniture for special events.
Ensure unoccupied areas are secured after cleaning.
Loads and unloads custodial supplies and equipment on trucks, transports equipment and materials to other facilities.
Report to management when any scheduled work could not be performed or completed.
Respond to emergency calls after‑hours and on weekends.
Supervisory Responsibility
None
Minimum Qualifications
Six months experience in floor care.
Must be able to pass a background screening for access to the work areas.
Able to pass a Motor Vehicle Background screening and have reliable transportation.
Must pass a pre‑employment drug test.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior custodial work experience.
Qualified to work under the AbilityOne Program.
Other Considerations
General knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in custodial work.
Must be able to work harmoniously in a team environment with a diverse workforce.
Completes assigned work on or before deadlines in accordance with prescribed procedures.
Accepts supervisory instruction and direction and strives to meet the goals and objectives of same.
Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by applicable agencies.
Attends work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness. Provides adequate notice for time‑off requests.
Work at a reasonable pace for the job duties assigned and physical ability.
Able to follow basic instructions and respond to common inquiries with or without reasonable accommodations.
Reasoning Ability: Able to identify issues or problems, evaluate and draw valid conclusions.
Attentive to detail for quality performance.
This position is part of a union and subject to the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if Applicable) Government clearance required for access to work sites.
Physical Requirements Requirements will vary depending on the assigned tasks. This position does require the following: repetitive lifting, push/pull, carrying, walking, climbing ladders, squatting, kneeling, and prolonged standing. Will involve lifting/moving up to 40 pounds. Reasonable accommodation, when practical, can be offered to accomplish the above requirements.
Safety And Environmental Requirements
Tasks are regularly performed inside without exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, heat, cold, rain, fumes).
Will need to use any personal protective (safety) equipment as designated properly and consistently.
Involves exposure to hazardous materials (i.e., cleaning solutions and bio‑waste hazards).
Required inoculations and training provided by the company.
Some tasks may be performed independently with little supervision.
Sensory Requirements Tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity.
Availability 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Company contribution to the 401(k) Discretionary Fund beginning on first day of employment.
Full‑time employees are eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan on the first of the month following their date of hire.
Part‑time employees are eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan after one year of employment and based on the number of hours worked.
