Summary
Job Summary:
The Lead Security Officer oversees hospital security operations, including patrolling the facility, supervising security staff, conducting investigations, and ensuring compliance with procedures. This role provides training to new security officers and serves as acting Shift Supervisor when needed, maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Minimum Job Requirements: Work Experience: Two years of experience in security, emergency response or law enforcement are required.
License/Registration/Certification: Current BLS required. International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Advanced Certification obtained within 6 months of employment. Valid Driver’s License.
Education and Training: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must complete the Hospital’s in-service course (CPI) within 3 months of employment and the IAHSS Basic Security course within six months of employment.
Skills: Knowledge of customer service principles and practices. Knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and Environment of Care standards, including emergency preparedness and security protocols. Ability to deal effectively with different individuals in stressful, highly sensitive situations. Ability to collaborate effectively with people of all social, economic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to train, mentor, and coach associates to promote quality improvement and operational effectiveness. Strong verbal and written communication to prepare reports, document incidents, and effectively convey information to staff and management. Ability to exercise sound judgement in unusual situations and involvement with aggressive and violent psychiatric patients, visitors and intruders. Ability to analyze a situation and make effective decisions. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, maintain accurate documentation and handle sensitive information with discretion.
