In lieu of benefits, an additional 15% premium is added to the base pay for all Per Diem (Casual) employees. RESPONSIBILITIES • Perform phlebotomy on neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics in both laboratory and clinical settings. • Accurately input patient data and test results into the computer system using Excel, Word, and order entry systems. • Provide clerical support such as filing, answering phones, and maintaining patient records. • Assist in pre-analytical, limited analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. • Cross-train and provide coverage in various laboratory or clinical departments as necessary, based on staffing needs. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Certification as a medical assistant or phlebotomist preferred. • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients and team members. • Experience with a wide range of patient age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. • Moderate knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology. • Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills, with attention to detail. • Proficiency in computer applications, including order entry, Excel, and Word. • Strong dexterity skills are essential. • Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including lifting, standing, gripping, and bending for extended periods. ENVIRONMENT: The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The laboratory is a biohazard environment. Employees must adhere to the laboratory safety plan in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing job duties. The position requires: 1. Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning) 2. Frequent contact with potential biohazards including blood and other body fluids. 3. Exposure to potential hazard by a sharps injury, such as a needlesticks. 4.
