Under the direction of the Department Manager, the cashier in the cafeteria assists in setting up and maintaining the cafe serving area, cleans the cafeteria area according to hospital and state quality and sanitary standards, collects money, makes change, and maintains the cash register in accordance with business office procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

Prepare coffee, assemble and deliver coffee service and catering items, and prepare steam table items before each meal period.

Portion and wrap food items accurately and attractively, stock items for cafeteria, rotate stock, maintain menu board and posted menus, and perform dishwashing duties as necessary.

Maintain cleanliness in serving area and dining room tables, collect money and make change for cafeteria patrons, and set up cafeteria for meal service.

Answer telephone, receive and distribute messages to appropriate members of the department, unlock the kitchen each morning, and lock the kitchen each evening.

Experience and Qualifications

Recent restaurant or health care food service experience as Host/Hostess, Cashier, or Stock Salad Bar.

One (1) year of restaurant/institutional food service, cashier, and catering experience.

Food Handler Certificate (Oregon).

Effective oral communication skills and ability to write legibly, read, and follow written instructions.

Must demonstrate ability to organize and perform work without close supervision.
