Position: Environmental Technician I Location: Headquarters Moon Township, PA

Hours of work:

Full-time position with hours Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00 PM

The Environmental Technician I is responsible for the analysis of spent carbon samples for verification of waste acceptance criteria and to ensure permit compliance with Calgon Carbon's environmental permits. Responsible for recording all test results and issuing final report for formal review. The Technician ensures sample hold times and preservation requirements are met and chain-of-custody procedures are followed and must institutionalize Health and Safety as number one goal to promote an accident‑free workplace by following established lab safety policies and procedures. The Technician will participate in all required safety training programs, provide necessary safety training and conduct all work in a safe manner at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)

Perform routine laboratory analyses on spent activated carbon samples for physical and chemical parameters in support of reactivation- acceptance approval and environmental permit compliance

Be familiar with basic wet chemistry and instrumental analysis

Determine proper sample analytical needs, review and understand analytical sample test results, be familiar with chemistry concepts, theories and practices in order to record, report and advise in regard to spent carbon waste management requirements for a RCRA permitted treatment, storage and disposal facility (TSDF) to both internal and external customers

Design, control and conduct all laboratory studies required to complete reactivation approvals and recertifications on time and in a safe manner

Coordinate appropriate outside testing with contract laboratories

Ensures samples submitted to outside laboratory are thoroughly mixed and made homogeneous

Make certain samples are properly preserved and documented as needed for permit compliance

Use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software to input data and generate official analytical test reports

Responsible for lab data validation, preparation of high-quality analytical reports, performs quality assurance reviews and approvals

Must be objective in reporting laboratory findings in order to ensure an overall presentation of facts that will foster sound discussion and decisions regarding reactivation approvals

Maintain laboratory Quality Assurance program in accordance with all operating permits

Complete all required safety trainings and work in a safe manner

Calibrate, adjust, and make minor repairs to laboratory equipment and instruments. Prepare reagents and media for use in Laboratory

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), or equivalent from four-year college or university is required (Environmental Science or Chemistry is preferred)

0-2 years of environmental laboratory experience is required
