A Fiber Technician performs in-home fiber installation and maintenance services through a series of tasks involving a range of building types, from large commercial structures and office buildings to private homes. Tasks involve installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables for high-speed data transmission and communication infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Resolve, repair and install fiber optics systems, ensuring that they work properly.
Examine and replace faulty and/or old fiber optic cables.
Rectify fiber optic problem areas.
Inspect worksite, so that a faulty fiber optic system does not destabilize its performance.
Keep track of the signal strength of different devices including television, telephone, and high-speed internet.
Formulate and maintain system records and system designs.
Educate customers on services and assist with setting up customer owned devices.
Requirements Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with experience in fiber installation preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, sit
Ability to use hands to handle or feet
Ability to reach with hands and arms
Ability to climb and balance. Use or ladder required.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
Ability to work in tight spaces (attic/crawl space, etc.)
Ability to lift up to 75lbs
Ability to maintain all safety expectations
Works outdoors for extended periods.
Exposed to extreme weather conditions.
Utilize hand and power tools
Ability to follow directions.
Ability to work as a team.
