The Sr. Physical Therapist is responsible for providing guidance and support to rehab staff in the assigned area, planning and delivering physical therapy treatment in accordance with professional and MLH standards, and contributing to departmental programs and projects. The role models MLH Mission, Vision and Values, ensuring compassionate, service‑oriented care for all patients.
What You Will Do
Provides day‑to‑day direction to associates in the assigned area; assists in scheduling, interviews, training, evaluates associates, and collaborates with technical staff to organize daily workflow.
Serves as a resource for associates, answering questions, researching issues, and resolving problems.
Performs initial patient assessments, evaluating medical history, diagnosis and current condition.
Ensures policies, procedures and standards of Physical Therapy are followed at all times.
Performs and implements patient treatments based on assessment and written plan, teaching self‑care skills, adaptive equipment use, and body‑mechanics to reduce physical, emotional and social limitations.
Provides ongoing patient assessment through documentation of changes in patient condition and treatment response.
Evaluates treatment plan and patient response; re‑assesses short‑term goals as needed.
Identifies patient‑specific rehabilitation learning needs, provides education to patients and families, assesses educational effectiveness, and documents outcomes.
Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for professional development and competency enhancement.
Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education and Formal Training Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy
Work Experience Requirements
1–3 years of experience in physical therapy
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
Licensed Physical Therapist in Tennessee by the Tennessee Board of Physical Therapy
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced knowledge and skills in the assigned area of practice.
Thorough knowledge of current theories and principles in the specialty field.
Demonstrated ability to interact with peers, medical staff, patients/families and other stakeholders.
Knowledgeable of the system through which patients receive care.
Excellent verbal and written communication, problem‑solving, and conflict‑resolution skills.
Displays sensitivity, compassion and respect for people of diverse cultures.
Ability to prepare moderately complex written materials such as patient records.
Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.
Capable of organizing multiple tasks and projects while maintaining workflow control.
Supervision Provided by this Position
Leads staff in the site‑specific rehab department by assigning duties and providing input for personnel actions.
Physical Demands
Activities may include climbing, pushing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
Requires good balance and coordination.
May exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally or up to 25 lbs frequently.
Requires clear visual acuity, including color, depth perception and field of vision for tasks such as patient assessment and computer use.
Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials.
Requires quick reaction to emergency situations.
