Senior Veterinary Technician
– Black Beauty Ranch (BBR), Murchison, Texas

Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Senior Veterinary Technician to perform clinical treatments, anesthesia, diagnostic procedures, radiology, prescribing and administering pharmacy items, chemical capture, and surgical assistance under the supervision of the Director of Veterinary Medicine at Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch. You will also supervise and implement the veterinary technician internship/externship program.
Responsibilities
Provide all aspects of veterinary care for animals under the supervision of the Director of Veterinary Medicine at Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch.
Conduct diagnostics including fecal analysis, blood film evaluation, cytology, urinalysis and diagnostic equipment usage. Procure and ship samples, prepare other testing procedures and maintain diagnostic equipment.
Conduct anesthesia and anesthetic machinery during immobilizations on a wide variety of animals.
Maintain medical records and logs for patient data, radiology, diagnostics, case dispositions, admissions, euthanasia, and controlled substances in accordance with regulations.
Oversee medical supply inventory; order supplies and medications and log controlled substances.
Perform chemical capture activities and support veterinary staff with chemical capture operations. Maintain anesthetic equipment and keep up-to-date skills and knowledge on the protocol for capture operations.
Implement the internship/externship program including teaching and mentorship, development of procedures, work assignments, and performance evaluations.
Cleans, organizes, and maintains veterinary hospital, mobile units, supplies, equipment, and chemical immobilization devices including purchasing and upkeep of inventory within budget.
Administer, fill, and dispense prescriptions as directed and instruct caregivers in the administration of prescriptions.
Assist with euthanasia and necropsy procedures and arrange necropsy/disposal.
Ensure the hospital meets regulatory standards in accordance with state regulations, GFAS, DEA and OSHA.
Attend and obtain the necessary continuing education via conferences to maintain veterinary technician license.
Participate in the emergency preparedness program and assist in preparing operating procedures for disaster response, completing required FEMA training as needed.
Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
Associate degree in Veterinary Technology is required.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in veterinary technology.
Experience in zoo animal/exotic animal or equine medicine.
Must have and maintain a License as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT).
Must have and maintain a Texas state Veterinary Technician license prior to the start date.
Ability to work and train with the Animal Care Director and Director of Veterinary Medicine on euthanasia procedures and protocols.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain up-to-date rabies prophylaxis and titer and TB testing.
Skilled in a variety of laboratory testing and techniques.
Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong interest in animal protection issues (preferred).
