Registered Nurse RN – CCU (MyMichigan Health) Summary:

The Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients using the nursing process. This includes ongoing assessment of the total patient. The RN provides interventions to treat the presenting symptoms and evaluates the effect of nursing interventions and patient’s responses. The RN functions as a team leader/member and resource to others. The RN delegates, oversees and provides direction to support staff. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to establish goals and outcomes for each patient. The RN is responsible for meeting the needs of all types of patients.

Responsibilities:

Patient assessment and skilled nursing services (40%)

Regularly assesses patient’s needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence‑based nursing practice.

Direct patient care (30%)

Provides direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as appropriate.

Evaluate treatment plan effectiveness (20%)

Evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.

Compliance with regulations (10%)

The RN is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations and guidelines as well as hospital‑specific policies and procedures relating to care provided in the medical center.

Documents accurately, clearly and concisely and includes pertinent clinical data. Shares information and reports significant changes and/or abnormal findings to appropriate team members in a timely manner.

Participates in regulatory surveys.

Provides a safe and secure environment for patient care.

Maintains knowledge of current trends and professional standards within a specialty.

Demonstrates understanding of the role in emergency‑preparedness procedures.

Sets up and assists with central line and chest tube insertion and care according to policy and procedure. Inserts cervical tubes, nasogastric tubes, feeding tubes per physician order; inserts and cares for IVs; provides routine care and instruction of SP catheters and surgical drains; provides proper care for drains and removal.

Removes sutures and skin clips, provides routine ostomy care and irrigates and packs wounds per physicianħol order, procedure and care plan.

Performs accurate CVP reading per physician order and proper procedure. Sets up, instructs and monitors PCA use.

Obtains doppler pulses per proper procedure. Provides routine care of gastrostomy/jejunostomy tubes per procedure and physician orders. Assists in heparin therapy protocol per procedures.

Applies basic traction, splints, braces Decoder and CPM machines per procedure and physician order.

Trims casts and removes wound drains per physician order and procedure.

Maintains total hip and total knee precaution measures and instructs patients.

Certifications and Licensures:

RN: Registered Nurse – Equivalent Experience: within 12 months of hire or transfer.

ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support – Equivalent Experience: within 12 months of hire or transfer.

BLS: Basic Life Support – Equivalent Experience: within 1 month of hire or transfer (AHA).

DIMC: Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man – Equivalent Experience: Telemetry competency through testing or Telemetry Monitoring & Management class with passing score within 12 months of hire.

Education:

Associate’s degree in Nursing (required).

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred).

Specialization: NRG.

Experience, Training and Skills:

Critical Care Orientation (ECCO) Course preferred.

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Knowledge, ability and competence in treating unit‑specific patient populations.//

Must follow MyMichigan Health blood‑borne pathogen and TB testing as required. MyMichigan Health is a technology‑driven organization and employees must demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows. Specialty certification preferred.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions:

Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex or an appropriate substitute if required.
