Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing NLP model to coordinate patient care delivery by the health care team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient’s response. The RN promotes safe passage for their patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to health‑care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient’s condition and the competencies of the employee.

The RN role is applied to inpatient and outpatient departments with 24×7 staffing, including on‑call staffing on off‑shifts. Examples of procedural areas include GI Lab, Pain Management, Dialysis, Infusion Centers and IV Services.

Essential Functions Of The Role

Clinical Judgment: Conduct accurate clinical assessments, identify and prioritize patient and family needs, develop, implement and evaluate the nursing plan of care, modifying plans to meet clinical outcomes.

Clinical Inquiry: Systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, support evidence‑based practice changes, and participate in quality/performance improvement initiatives.

Caring Practices: Create a compassionate and therapeutic environment, develop therapeutic relationships, manage emotional and physical pain to promote comfort and healing.

Response to Diversity: Incorporate patients’ and families’ unique differences into the individualized plan of care.

Advocacy and Moral Agency: Protect confidentiality, autonomy, dignity and rights of patients and families, represent their concerns, and resolve ethical and clinical issues.

Facilitation of Learning: Facilitate learning for patients, families, staff and the community; integrate education throughout the continuum of care and assess learning outcomes.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues and community, delegate tasks appropriately, and ensure timely follow‑up.

Systems Thinking: Use available resources for problem‑solving, recognize resource limits, and consider safety, effectiveness and efficiency in care planning.

Professionalism: Engage in shared governance and decision‑making, participate in staffing processes, pursue continuous professional growth, and contribute to community service.

Qualifications

Education : Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Experience : Minimum 2 years.

Certification / License / Registration : Registered Nurse (RN); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
