Position Summary Are you an environmental professional committed to protecting the health and safety of Pennsylvania’s communities and ecosystems? If so, we encourage you to explore the opportunity of becoming an Environmental Protection Specialist with the Southeast Regional Office’s Waste Management Program. In this position you will be involved in managing municipal, residual, and hazardous waste regulations across five counties.
Responsibilities
Act as the project officer for corrective action, qa; remediation and closure activities funded by Solid Waste Abatement Fundsshall within the region.
Serve as the primary technical representative for the department throughout all project phases.
Conduct assessments and site inspections to evaluate the project’s scope and ensure the effective implementation of selected actions.
Prepare detailed reports on findings and review corrective action plans to ensure compliance with environmental statutes and departmental policies.
Provide technical assistance to legal teams for cost recovery and other legal matters related to these projects.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full-time employment.
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
Travel is required.
Telework: you may work from home part‑time, up to 3 days per week with a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you cannot telework, you may report to the headquarters office in Norristown. The ability to telework may change at any time.
Salary: selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at a starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).
Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
One year of experience as a journey‑level specialist in a waste management program; or
Two years of experience in environmental protection and a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in biology, chemistry, or a closely related field. A master’s degree with major coursework in any closely related field may substitute for one year of the required experience; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant the required knowledge and abilities.
Special Requirement
This position requires possession of a valid motor‑vehicle operator’s license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Other Requirements
You must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
