Description Provides, directs and coordinates activities of nutrition care to patients/clients, integrating them with other facets of health care and assuring compliance with standards of practice and regulatory requirementslıyor.

Performance Duties

Provide basic, intermediate, or comprehensive nutritional care for patients/clients at low, moderate, or high nutrition risk as identified by RN or physician referral. Develop, implement, and document nutrition care plans and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. Select and/or develop instructional aid and provide effective diet counselling and education.

Co‑ordinate and integrate nutrition care services with other facets of health care; interact with M.D.s and other health professionals in interdisciplinary meetings, medical rounds, committees, etc.

Develop and provide nutrition education programmes in hospital and community settings. Act as adjunct instructor for dietetic students and provide in‑service education for employees and health team members.

Pursue continual self‑development to improve knowledge and skills and maintain A.D.A. registration.

Apply findings of current research to the practice of dietetics.

Attend required meetings and participate in work groups as necessary.

Maintain all required records, reports and statistics.

May provide Cerner system training to new and current associates as required upon hire and/or changes that occur, e.g., system tables, upgrades.

May work closely with pharmacists monitoring and adjusting TPN solutions daily.

May provide resolution, troubleshoot and recommend solutions to peers and associates involving activities of nutrition care.

In accordance with unit or departmental practice determines appropriate charges entered for the correct patient, encounter, date/time of service, and makes corrections as needed per charge capture policy.

In accordance with unit or departmental practice actively participates in ongoing education and communication regarding revenue management.

Assists with tracking and monitoring of equipment assigned to the unit, requests services for maintenance as needed.

Proficient with electronic health records for documentation, assessment and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift.

Position Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Science degree with major in Foods and Nutrition or a closely related field or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Licensure / Certification:

Certified as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission of Dietetic Registration; Current Heart Saver (HS) certification.

Experience:

One year of full‑time professional dietetics experience (preferred).

Special Skills / Aptitudes:

Technical, human relations, conceptual and management skills and ability to apply principles of dietetics and nutrition in various formats. Excellent customer service orientation necessary to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups. Able to perform duties per American Dietetics Association practice standards.

Demands:

In a typical day may sit 35 %, stand 45 %, walk 20 % of the day; occasional bending/stooping 6‑10 %; requires fine manual dexterity, high mental concentration, exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous waste and chemicals.
