The Laboratory Associate is primarily responsible for the support and upkeep of R&D laboratories based in Austin, TX. The scope of support includes inventory management, supply ordering and tracking, clinical sample ordering and tracking, vendor communication, laboratory safety checks and audits, corrective actions, and communication with various R&D teams as needed. The Laboratory Associate is also responsible for assisting equipment support personnel with critical tasks such as equipment installation, calibration, maintenance, repair, and daily laboratory checks as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
Track Laboratory Support Requests using established systems, regularly update requestors and ensure timely request resolutions
Clear and effective communication with R&D teams to ensure requests are adequately resolved
Communicate with vendors to obtain price quotes, equipment demonstrations, equipment deliveries, order updates, tracking information, etc.
Submit purchase requests using established systems and track purchases through delivery to the requestor
Conduct regular inventory checks of laboratory spaces to ensure adequate supplies are available
Perform regular safety checks of the laboratory spaces and monitor chemical and biohazardous waste streams in accordance with environmental health and safety requirements
Contribute to laboratory safety newsletters
Assist with regular safety audits and perform corrective actions as needed
Handle shipping and receiving of materials, chemicals and equipment in compliance with safety and regulatory standards
Provide feedback on lab processes, suggesting improvements for efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness
Assist with instrument installations and qualifications per equipment protocols as needed
Perform routine equipment maintenance procedures as needed
Perform routine laboratory equipment checks as needed
Qualifications
BS/BA in biomedical engineering, biological sciences or related fields
Industry‑related experience, especially in supporting laboratories, preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
Excellent adaptability in a fast‑changing environment
Self‑motivated
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Maintain a high level of professionalism and responsibility
Comply with company policies

Inventory management skills
Experience working in BSL‑I and BSL‑II laboratories as well as familiarity with biosafety requirements and guidelines as established by applicable regulatory bodies such as OSHA and CDC
Familiar with DNA isolation and purification, PCR, cell culture, next‑generation sequencing, etc.
Familiar with LIMS

Duties are typically performed in an office and/or laboratory setting
This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material
Ability to lift 40 lbs
