Melter Technician

to join the

Howmet Alloy

plant in Dover, New Jersey. The work hours for this

Afternoon Shift

position are Monday – Friday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Training occurs Monday – Friday 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. for several months.

Anticipated Pay Range:

$24 – $26 per hour. Pay rates are determined based on experience, education, certifications, etc. Position receives an hourly shift premium for off‑shift work. Responsibilities

The Melter Technician must charge, operate, maintain, and clean melting and related equipment in accordance with Vacuum Alloy Manufacturing Process documented procedures and is responsible for daily operation of vacuum furnaces.

Assist in the implementation of Howmet Aerospace’s EHS values and policies.

Comply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory EH&S regulations.

Wear all required personal protective equipment.

Report all job‑related illness, injuries and safety concerns to supervisor.

Attend all EH&S training.

Perform melting unit operation (pumps, blowers, etc.) and monitor equipment.

Maintain accurate records and logs.

Perform minor and preventive maintenance on equipment.

Operate preheat torches, melt cards, coils, and emergency procedures.

Execute furnace changes, including confined space, lockout/tag‑out, and safety audits.

Assist in training new team members.

After training, run “A”, “B”, “C” and “W” units and complete required certification.

Melter Responsibilities During Furnace Changes

Coordinate shift-to-shift communication during furnace changes.

Record furnace change progress and report problems.

Complete furnace change safety audits (confined space, fall protection, lockout/tag‑out, respirator inspections).

Ensure timely completion and supply ordering.

Job Specifications

Must successfully complete training and certification within prescribed timeframe.

Communicate effectively, read/write English.

Pass vision and physical requirements, use respirator, mobile equipment and overhead cranes.

Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, use of large tools, forklifts, cranes, measuring equipment.

Perform basic mathematical calculations and PC operations.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications

Access to export‑controlled items; must be eligible to lawfully obtain such access.

Legally authorized to work in the U.S.; no visa sponsorship.

High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.

Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Dover, NJ.

Preferred Qualifications

Work flexible hours including nights and weekends with little notice.

Ability to troubleshoot equipment.
