Job Description As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in energetic devices, you will design, analyze, and prototype components such as actuators, igniters, and propulsion systems using advanced mechanical engineering principles. You will be responsible for performing mechanical stress, thermal, and dynamic analysis to ensure safety and optimal performance of these components. Your role will involve collaborating with chemists, electrical engineers, and systems engineers to integrate energetic systems into broader platforms, developing and executing tests and qualification procedures, and preparing technical drawings and specifications. Your designs must comply with regulatory, safety, and quality standards for handling and deployment of energetic materials.
Responsibilities
Design, analyze, and prototype energetic devices using mechanical engineering principles.
Perform mechanical stress, thermal, and dynamic analysis on energetic components.
Collaborate with chemists, electrical engineers, and systems engineers to integrate systems.
Develop and execute tests and qualification procedures for energetic devices.
Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.
Ensure designs comply with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
Support failure analysis and root cause investigations for existing components or systems.
Maintain knowledge of current technologies, materials, and best practices in energetics.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
3+ years experience in mechanical design.
Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar).
Experience with FEA and mechanical analysis tools.
Strong understanding of materials science, thermodynamics, and dynamics.
Knowledge of safety standards and regulations for energetic materials.
Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Prior experience with high‑impact or high‑acceleration testing.
Familiarity with pyrotechnic initiators, pressure cartridges, or energetic actuators.
Experience in cross‑functional engineering teams.
Work Environment You will join a dynamic team of 8 engineers, primarily composed of mechanical engineers, with one electrical engineer. The environment is collaborative and focused on custom designs within the aerospace industry. Dress code is business casual, and you will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
Job Type & Location Contract position based out of Fairfield, NJ.
Pay And Benefits Pay range: $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
