Compensation The current minimum salary for Structure Maintainer - Group D is $37.16 per hour for a 40‑hour week, increasing to $43.72 per hour in the sixth year of service. These rates are subject to change. Benefits include night and weekend salary differentials, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, a comprehensive medical plan and a pension plan.
Responsibilities Structure Maintainers – Group D, under general supervision, perform sheet metal work in subway, surface and elevated structures, including stations, enclosures and related buildings; install, maintain and repair roofs, skylights, ducts, leaders and gutters, drip pans, fireproof doors, stovepipes and receptacles; fabricate sheet metal, plastic and fiberglass parts and devices; perform other structural work as necessary, including incidental painting; load, unload and drive trucks and vans; keep records; and perform related work. Physical activities include working outdoors in all weather conditions, walking along subway tracks, stepping over rails (including live third rails), climbing and walking on elevated structures, roofs, ladders, ramps and scaffolding; lifting and carrying heavy tools and equipment; bending and stooping in confined spaces; using hand tools and heavy‑duty power tools; reading prints and drawings; distinguishing colored light signals; judging distances of lights in tunnels; and hearing warnings and responding to the sounds of oncoming trains.
Qualifications
Completion of a four‑year, full‑time apprenticeship in the sheet metal trade recognized by the New York State Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Labor, or any state apprenticeship council.
Three years of full‑time experience as a sheet metal worker at the דjourney level (fully trained, proficient, knowledgeable, experienced, and competent) in fabricating sheet metal products from blueprints using sheet metal machinery and shop tools.
Two years of full‑time satisfactory experience as described in #2, plus completion of one of the following before obtaining your journey‑level experience: gespeichert as helper, apprentice or trainee; graduation from a vocational high school with a major in sheet metal work or a closely related field; graduation from a trade school or technical school approved by a state’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization with a major course of study in sheet metal work or a closely related field totalingгьы 600 hours; or an associate degree or higher in sheet metal work or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Qualification part‑time experience will be credited on a prorated basis.
Experience that involves only incidental or occasional sheet metal work (e.g., mixed construction, masonry, carpentry, ironwork, auto body repair or welding) is not acceptable.

Requirements To Be Appointed
Driver License Requirement: At appointment, you must have a valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York without disqualifying restrictions. Maintain the license for the duration of employment.
Drug Screening Requirement: Pass a drug screening to be appointed and be subject to random drug and alcohol tests for the duration of employment. Positive or refusal cases must complete the Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluation, referral and treatment per federal law.
Residency: New York City residency is not required.
English Requirement: Understand and be understood in English to perform duties.
Proof of Identity: Obtain proof of identity and right to employ in the United Stak as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
