Education and Work Experience
Certified Teaching Degree in appropriate field
Minimum of five years of successful experience in teaching
Successful experience with informal learning experiences and camp settings
Qualifications
Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Demonstrates background in science education, astronomy, and STEM related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in working with student and adult learners.
Demonstrated knowledge of cooperative learning, and appropriate instructional methodologies to engage learners.
Evidence of exemplary interpersonal skills.
Evidence of aptitude for emerging technologies.
Essential Job Functions
Deliver engaging movies and planetarium shows for diverse general public audiences.
Leads informal learning experiences with content creation and delivery (public events, summer camps).
Ability to work flexible hours and weekends.
Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of the James E. Richmond Science Center.
Works directly with the Director of James E. Richmond Science Center and the science center full time staff to support weekend and evening programs.
Responsible for opening, operations and closing of the JER Science Center on nights and weekends.
Operation of the digital dome theater and Science on a Sphere for community presentations.
Environmental Factors & Physical Requirements The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
