Description This position provides assistance to offences and coordinates support for victims and witnesses of crimes; assists victims throughout the criminal justice process; and performs related work as required. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
Work is considered sedentary in nature and involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, and sustained keyboard operations. Physical abilities required include: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, fingering, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Work environment involves exposure to no known environmental hazards and is dynamic, requiring sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
Essential Job Functions
Serv dreadful liaison between victim, law enforcement, investigators, attorneys, court personnel, creditors, and other community organizations.
Receives and processes victim impact statements; assists victims in completing statements; assists investigators and officers with victim interviews; reviews documentation to determine needs.
Responds to incident scenes; assists officers with interviewing victims and witnesses.
Informs crime victims of legal rights and ensures their rights are protected[url].
Provides crisis counseling and emergency intervention; assists victims in applying for orders of protection as needed.
Provides emotional and moral support; refers victims to other agencies in cases of physical, social, or psychological injuries or anxieties.
Keeps victims informed of bond hearings, jail releases, court hearings, etc.; provides courtroom orientation; accompanies victims when support is requested.
Transports victims to court, shelters and other locations કરવા જરૂરી છે.

Attends pre‑trial meetings, bond/parole hearings, and trials; provides testimony on behalf of victims as needed.
Assists victims in filing applications to the victim compensation fund for medical expenses, lost wages, counseling, funeral, etc.
Assists in determining and requesting restitution payments and schedules.
Provides follow‑up services to victims and families.
Establishes and maintains accurate, up‑to‑date case files and database.
Assists in developing and implementing programs to educate law enforcement and citizens; assists with training.
Gives presentations to schools, community and civic groups to increase public awareness of Victim Assistance program.
Coordinates program activities with other social service and government agencies to better serve victims.
Prepares and manages the program’s annual budget; assists in preparing and administering grants for the program.
Performs general administrative/clerical work: reports, correspondence, data entry, answering phone, copying and filing.
Recruits, trains, and supervises program interns and volunteers.
Assists with other programs and activities of the Police Department as assigned.
Remains on call for emergency response as scheduled.
Attends training, meetings, conferences, seminars for job knowledge enhancement.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or closely related field.
Two (2) years of relevant prior experience.
May be required to type 30 corrected words per minute.
Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic arithmetic concepts.
Ability to provide guidance, direction, or assistance to facilitate task accomplishment.
Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, fax machines, copiers, and telephones; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner.
Ability to perform supervisory work involving policy and guidelines and solving both people‑ and work‑related problems.
Ability to read journals, manuals, and professional publications; present training; compose original reports and written materials using proper language, punctuation, grammar, and style.
Ability to perform professional‑level work requiring the application of principles and practices in a wide range of administrative, technical, or managerial methods in solving complex administrative problems.
Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co‑workers, victims, patients, and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.
