Position Summary:
Mercury Broadband is seeking a skilled
Network Maintenance Technician
to support the deployment, maintenance, and repair of our
Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH)
network, while also contributing to the upkeep and decommission of
broadband tower sites . This hybrid role focuses primarily on fiber splicing and OSP infrastructure, with occasional tower work.
This is an upper-level field technician position requiring hands‑on fiber experience and a proactive, safety‑focused approach. The successful candidate will demonstrate independence, precision, and the ability to manage both routine and complex tasks with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Splice and maintain fiber optic cables, including loose tube and ribbon; perform mid‑span, cabinet, and butt splicing
Construct and seal proper splice enclosures, ensuring grounding, slack storage, bonding, and weatherproofing
Maintain splicing records, fiber schematics, and documentation with attention to detail
Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot fiber routes, and repair service‑impacting issues promptly
Follow engineering specifications, safety procedures, and project scopes in daily operations
Install or decommission broadband and network equipment at tower premises as needed
Assist with tower maintenance on existing infrastructure
Operate and maintain testing equipment such as OTDR, fusion splicers, power meters, and optical light sources
Occasionally work at elevated heights with appropriate safety gear (up to 300’)
Ensure all work meets Mercury’s safety, quality, and performance standards
Skills and Requirements
Strong knowledge of fiber optic networks and FTTH infrastructure
Familiarity with splice matrix documentation, GIS tools (AutoCAD, ESRI), and network design maps
Ability to operate basic hand/power tools and follow structured cabling procedures
Experience with broadband wireless equipment and general telecom infrastructure
Ability to work independently in varying outdoor conditions
Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
Minimum of 1 year telecommunications experience preferred
Self‑motivated with strong organizational and multitasking skills
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Physical Requirements
Ability to climb towers and structures regularly, including heights of
300–500+ feet .
Ability to climb while carrying tools or equipment.
Ability to safely climb ladders (including up to 40 ft).
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50–80 lbs (frequently or repetitively depending on task).
Ability to move equipment up and down stairs when necessary.
Sufficient hand strength and dexterity to operate hand tools and power tools as well as work with cables, connectors, microwave gear, and small components.
Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and contort the body for extended periods.
Ability to maintain balance while climbing and working on elevated or uneven surfaces.
Ability to work outdoors and indoors in all weather conditions year‑round, including harsh environments.
Ability to work around live electrical components and sensitive equipment.
Ability to see the full color spectrum (important for cable/connector identification).
Ability to hear and communicate clearly with team members.
Ability to handle equipment safely at heights and in confined spaces.
Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter‑driven hours as business demands dictate.
Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
May be required to operate general office equipment including but not limited to copiers, printers.
