Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC) is proud to bring trusted emergency-only vet care to Southwest Michigan with the opening of our fifth location in Kalamazoo. We are committed to delivering compassionate, skilled emergency veterinary services to pets when your primary veterinarian is closed.
Position Overview
As a Veterinary Technician, you will support the veterinary team in a fast‑paced emergency environment by handling patients, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the hospital is ready for care.
Responsibilities
Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with basic patient handling and restraint.
Clean and sanitize exam rooms, kennels, and treatment areas per hospital protocols.
Maintain cleanliness of hospital equipment, instruments, and laundry.
Feed, walk, and provide general care for hospitalized patients as directed.
Monitor patient comfort and report changes in condition to the medical team.
Restock supplies in exam rooms, treatment areas, and inventory stations.
Perform basic administrative tasks such as laundry, trash removal, and restocking.
Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and hospital improvement initiatives.
Provide a positive, empathetic experience for clients and patients at all times.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in animal care (kennel, shelter, pet boarding, or similar) preferred but not required.
Ability to safely and compassionately handle animals of various temperaments and sizes.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Dependable, detail‑oriented, and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, emergency environment with exposure to distressed animals and emotional situations.
Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnights as needed.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and remain on feet for extended periods.
Compensation & Support
Competitive hourly pay commensurate with experience.
Shift differentials for nights and weekends.
