Job Summary
The
Student Worker
in Surgical Services plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the surgical department. This position is ideal for students interested in veterinary medicine, surgical care, or healthcare operations. The role involves maintaining cleanliness, managing supplies, and assisting with surgical procedures.
Essential Functions
Maintain stock in operating rooms, sterile supply room, and sterile processing area
Put away supply orders promptly
Pick up items from pharmacy and store them appropriately
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks using proper protocols
Clean and disinfect operating rooms post-procedure following decontamination standards
Assisting with case setup and room turnover
Aseptic opening of items
Gown and glove of faculty, residents, and 4th-year veterinary students
Confirming patient checklist
Collaborate with surgical services staff to ensure smooth operations
Assist with pre-surgical aseptic prep and other patient care duties under supervision
Support sterile processing with tasks including restocking, cleaning, instrument cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization
Participate in hands‑on cross‑training in anesthesia, including assisting with patient preparation, assisting with transportation of patients, cleaning and restocking, and observation of anesthetic procedures without performing anesthetic monitoring or drug administration.

Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled as a student at Auburn University
Interest in veterinary medicine
Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain a sterile environment
Strong communication and organizational skills

Pay Rate $11.00/hour
Work Hours Maximum of 20 hours/week
