About the Unit 3 East- Acute Care Medicine is a 28-bed unit created to facilitate throughput for the UNC REX Emergency Department. Patients are admitted with a variety of medical diagnoses (TIA, falls, syncope, nausea, vomiting, cellulitis, anemia, flu). Patients should be medically stable for discharge within 24 to 72 hours. Attending providers belong to the UNC REX Hospitalist group. The team provides holistic, collaborative, patient-centered care.

Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reports and is accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

Education - Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attends education programs. Utilizes patient education materials. Assesses readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers.

Evaluation of Care - Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance for plan of care revision. Participates in interdisciplinary discussions. Communicates relevant information.

Implementation - Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems. Performs bedside point-of-care testing. Utilizes organization policies and procedures. Prioritizes care. Consults resources for complex issues.

Leadership - Develops goals for professional growth. Participates in unit goal development. Uses communication systems. Promotes cost-effective care. Gives feedback to co-workers. Promotes safe environment.

Patient Assessment - Recognizes data from complex situations to set care priorities. Synthesizes assessment data. Assesses discharge needs and develops family relationships.

Planning - Collaborates with patient/family to update the plan of care. Uses multidisciplinary resources. Identifies cultural/ethnic issues. Prioritizes tasks.

Research - Reads relevant journals and brings ideas to staff.

Education Requirements

Graduation from a nursing school of professional nursing.

If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years and obtain a bachelor's with major in nursing or a master's within seven years.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

Professional Experience Requirements

One (1) year of nursing experience.
