CPW Area Wildlife Biologist (WILDLIFE MANAGER III) – Area 5 and 1, NE Colorado, Denver Department: Colorado Parks and Wildlife – NE Terrestrial Section. This position serves within CPW’s NE Terrestrial Section as a wildlife biologist. The role focuses on gathering, evaluating, and summarizing data and observations on terrestrial wildlife and habitat resources, and formulating management recommendations.

Responsibility Overview

Formulate and present wildlife management recommendations to CPW staff and external partners.

Develop, plan, and conduct wildlife and habitat inventories.

Minimize or mitigate impacts on wildlife and habitats through assessment of environmental statements and resource plans.

Conduct wildlife and habitat management studies, including capturing, marking, monitoring populations.

Collaborate with CPW Habitat Unit, Field Operations, procurement, and other units to develop and implement habitat management programs.

Employ computer-based wildlife population models and analyze hunter harvest data.

Educate and inform the public through dissemination of wildlife information.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of relevant experience in wildlife biology, conservation biology, biology, or related occupation, or a combination of related education and experience equal to six years.

Preferred Qualifications

Colorado Parks and Wildlife work or volunteer experience.

Professional level writing, research, and communication skills.

Experience managing wildlife projects/programs.

Proficiency in natural resources experimental design and statistical analyses.

Knowledge of wildlife inventory techniques and harvest management.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, R, and GIS software.

Master’s degree in wildlife biology, wildlife ecology, natural resources, or related field.

Required Competencies

Able to conduct sustained aerial surveys (>3-hour fuel loads) in small aircraft.

Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather.

Knowledge of wildlife management theory and techniques.

Proficient at data collection, summary, and analyses.

Independent and team work skills.

Strong writing and communication skills.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Conditions of Employment

Posting open only to residents of the State of Colorado.

Approximately 12 nights of travel per year.

Low sensitivity to motion sickness required for flight operations.

Legal driver requirements for State-owned vehicle use.
