Position Overview Under general supervision, performs a variety of work in the general maintenance of landscape and grounds; maintains and performs minor repairs to grounds maintenance equipment; performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Maintains the general appearance of exterior landscaping in a quality manner by following daily, weekly, monthly and annual landscape schedules
Weeds landscaped planting beds; mows and edges lawn areas and fence lines
Edges and trims around walkways, sidewalks, flower beds and against walls
Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve appearance and growth
Sprays lawn areas with herbicides to control undesirable weeds as directed
Maintains all landscape equipment and tools in good working condition and demonstrates proficiency of use (pole saws, chainsaws, lawn mowers, etc.)
Waters lawn areas using timed and manual irrigation system methods
Maintains and makes minor repairs to irrigation systems
Assures exterior play areas and equipment are safe
Monitors grounds and playground areas and responds to any unsafe situations
Empties exterior trash cans and picks up exterior trash
Assists with field preparation for sporting events
Rakes rock areas to maintain uniform spreading, especially around playground equipment
Blows sidewalks to keep free of rocks and debris
Follows Landscape Management Guide, Landscape Schedules, Field and Ground Treatment Schedules and Annual Soil Testing Reports; makes recommended changes as needed
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum one year of professional landscape experience.
Work Experience or Related Experience
Minimum one year of professional landscape experience (prefer 2-5 years).
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge, skills and interest in improving and maintaining landscape quality throughout campus.
Knowledge of care and upkeep of play fields, landscaped areas, walkways, parking lots and all other campus exterior areas.
Charging all safety rules, including use of PPE.
Ability to work independently in a quality(Edit) manner.
Willingness to fill in for custodial duties and support school events requiring extra hours.
Flexibility regarding work hours to support needed campus coverage, particularly in the absence of the Campus Manager.
Excellent communication, both orally and in writing, to convey technical information to non‑technical staff.
Self‑motivated and able to work in a quick‑paced environment.
Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work safely with mechanical and manually operated landscaping equipment and tools; work outside in high temperatures (up to >100°F) on a regular basis.
Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Typical duties include frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds.
Must sit or stand for extended periods; enter data into a computer; read computer screens and printed material; hear and understand speech on the telephone and in person.
Background Checks
Required to pass a criminal history background check.
Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Must obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.
Physical And Travel Requirements / Work Environment
Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
Position may require lifting objects up to 25 pounds on occasion.
May require sitting for long periods histori; talking on the phone; standing, kneeling, stooping and engaging in concentration.
Local and in‑state travel required.
