Job Description The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking an outstanding individual who is interested in making a difference in the lives of vulnerable adults in the Omaha area as a Child and Family Services Specialist Trainee – Adult Protective Services. We are looking for persons who are mission‑driven, action‑oriented, and possess excellent communication skills.

Trainees are hired at $21.84 poveć a N and promoted to $25.61 after training.

Responsibilities

Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, self‑neglect, financial exploitation; visit homes and nursing homes; conduct safety assessments; determine vulnerability; establish safety plans; initiate court interventions.

Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans; authorize and coordinate appropriate services.

Prepare cases with legal staff and testify in court.

Develop community resources; work with law enforcement, mental health, and medical professionals; inform the public of protection and safety services.

Perform crisis intervention.

Prepare documentation and correspondence.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice, or other closely related area. Consideration will be given to applicants in the final semester of their Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Child and Family Services Specialist experience with the state of Nebraska and experience working with vulnerable adults.

Other Requirements:

Valid driver’s license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation; travel for face‑to‑face visits may be required; usage of a state vehicle may be provided.

Must be able to be on call on a rotating basis and reachable on a work cell phone 24/7 during the on‑call period; must be able to respond immediately for field investigations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of family life issues, community services, and adult behavior.

Skill in interviewing clients, assessing.Abstract; discussing concerns respectfully.

Ability to protect confidential information and communicate effectively with community service providers.

Proonec; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to interpret and apply state and federal lawsqarfinas.

Readiness to respond during on‑call periods and conduct investigations promptly.
