Position Description POSITION SUMMARY:

The Non-Registered Nephrology Technician prepares dialysis machines for patient treatment, disinfects dialysis machines and collects statistical data at the Charlton Campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Secondary School diploma

2 Year Community College diploma in Technical Engineering, Health Sciences

Completion of the Dialysis Technical Assistant course, preferred

1 year practical and related experience and/or 3 to 6 months on the job training required

Knowledge of dialysis equipment and dialysis therapy

Demonstrate a technical/mechanical aptitude and be extremely reliable, punctual and energetic.

Operation of dialysis equipment.

Ability to work effectively with patients, technical, nursing and medical staff in a pleasant and courteous manner.

Willingness to work in a chronic care patient-orientated unit

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assembles and prepares the dialysis extracorporeal circuit according to aseptic technique, protocol and the dialysis prescription, and verifies the absence of residual sterilants.

Prepares dialysate according to established procedures and the dialysis prescription and collects samples.

Tests and monitors machine functions including alarms, conductivity and temperature; also sets monitors and alarms according to unit and manufacturer protocols.

Prepares patient lists and distributes supplies for subsequent patient shifts.

Collects and organizes patient statistics and schedules to ensure ORN reporting compliance.

Reviews, and commits to adhere to, all applicable hospital policies and procedures.

Maintains confidentiality at all times and ensures the release of information is in accordance with hospital policy.

Sets up dialysis equipment in other areas of the hospital and other hospitals.

Disinfects portable RO machines at various hospitals in the city.

Disinfects dialysis machines.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Technical Manager.

HOURS OF WORK Rotating shifts and extended hours. Note: The successful applicant may be required to work at both Charlton and King Campus.
