The Hamblen CSU Registered Nurse JOB SUMMARY

Serves as a clinical member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing treatment, rehabilitation, and support for client population. Adapts to multi-tasking in a CSU setting and provides direct medical care to clients including those in varying levels of crisis, frequently with SPMI and co-occurring issues. Assists with crisis interventions and medical emergencies, obtains vital signs each shift or more frequently as indicated. Administers intramuscular injections, communicates with PCPs during recovery and transition phases, and liaises with other agencies as indicated. Triages referrals, completes RN intake/assessments on all clients admitted during their shift, obtains urine drug screens, BAL and pregnancy tests on admissions, dispenses routine and PRN medications, updates MAR, and completes electronic and paper charting in a timely manner; participates in treatment team meetings. May take calls from recently discharged clients requesting bridge prescriptions and follow-up calls on weekends; coordinates with pharmacies and obtains prior authorizations. Collaborates with Mobile Crisis and Walk-In Center to assist with referrals to higher level of care; completes SBARs. Certified in and implements verbal and physical de-escalation techniques; this includes a wide range of bodily movements for safety. Schedule requires 12-hour shifts and rotating weekends. Regular attendance is an essential job function. Typical Working Conditions/Environment

Housed at the Hamblen County Campus; involves both office-based clinical/administrative work and community-based clinical interactions. Engages clients, peers, and community members in a professional and therapeutic manner. Schedule includes 12-hour shifts and rotating weekends; regular attendance is essential. Telehealth and doxy may be used for specific cases, resulting in phone/computer sessions. 1. Daily Staff Duties

Perform initial admission medical assessments and complete required admission paperwork, including nursing assessment, notes, and admission orders. Complete paper MAR and EMARs; obtain urine drug screens, BAL, and pregnancy tests on admission. Follow established protocols and guidelines for admission prior to admitting the client to the unit. Determine appropriate admission protocols for each client (e.g., agitation, diabetic, hypertension protocols). Obtain admission orders from the on-call prescriber in a timely manner. Complete charting for each client during every shift; discuss medications and aftercare instructions with client and/or family; provide copies of paperwork. Count narcotics and document at every shift change; notify supervisor of discrepancies. Obtain and chart vital signs on every shift; monitor for significant changes and request new orders as needed. Administer scheduled, routine, and PRN medications promptly; obtain blood sugars as ordered. Triages potential referrals with Mobile Crisis and Walk-In Center; coordinate arrival times with Mobile Crisis, Walk-In Center, and Transporters. Complete C-SSRS on each client; respond to medical emergencies (e.g., seizures, falls); coordinate with Emergency Departments and EMS. Obtain Prior Authorizations; respond to medication-related calls from recently transitioned guests. Maintain weekly medication counts of routine medications; update Admission/Discharge log for admissions and transitions. Complete follow-up calls on weekends as program requirements dictate. 2. Team Building

Be punctual with good attendance; participate in daily treatment team meetings and shift reports. Coordinate transitions with other staff; maintain positive, professional relationships with staff and supervisors. Address conflicts in a problem-solving manner; accept additional assignments as needed to meet crisis service needs. Support Mobile Crisis and Walk-In Center during referrals to higher care; promote cultural diversity and respect for individual differences. Schedule and cover shifts as needed for 24/7 program operation; client transport as needed. Job Duties/Responsibilities

Starting salary for this position is approximately $31.51/hr based on relevant experience and education. Schedule

CSU operates 24/7, 365 days a year; shifts may include day, night, weekend, and holiday hours. Regular attendance is essential. Travel

Requires using a personal vehicle for Center business; maintaining a dependable vehicle and valid driver status is required. Equipment/Technical Competency

Daily computer competency; able to use Word and Excel; typing and basic computer knowledge; able to use a scanner/printer and maintain professional phone etiquette. QUALIFICATIONS - Hamblen CSU Registered Nurse

Experience

Experience in psychiatric nursing preferred; experience with SPMI and co-occurring disorders preferred. Computer experience required; crisis setting experience preferred. Education / Knowledge

RN with current Tennessee license and psychiatric nursing experience preferred; BSN or ANA certification as Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse preferred. Knowledge of psychiatric medications, diagnoses, treatment modalities, and interventions; familiarity with Microsoft Office and EMR. 12-hour shift schedules and rotating weekends; regular attendance essential. Physical

Exposure to biological hazards; hearing, close eye work, frequent odors; lifting up to 50 lbs.; pushing/pulling up to 250 lbs.; frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Physical de-escalation techniques limited to McNabb Center facilities; current CPR/First Aid certification required (training provided). Must remain awake and alert during shift; ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure. Location
