As a member of the Additive Manufacturing team, you will operate both top‑of‑the‑line subtractive manufacturing equipment and advanced laser powder bed fusion machines to produce propulsion components for Ursa Major’s products. This role demands a high attention to detail, a hands‑on self‑starter mentality, and a desire to grow & contribute to Ursa’s mission in a small team environment. Your contributions will enable the future of advanced manufacturing for rocket propulsion systems.
Responsibilities
Program and operate machine tools such as CNC Vertical Mill, Lathe, Blanchard Grinder, and multiple EDMs to support part cutoff, finishing, and build plate resurfacing
Planning – Ability to organize and plan daily/weekly schedules for machines to support additive operations, maintain uptime on production equipment, and meet product timelines
Material handling – Move parts and build plates from station to station with safety and quality in mind, while maintaining work orders within the ERP system
Contribute to design, fabrication, and assembly of various machine work holding and fixtures
Operate and maintain laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and other machine tools when needed
Perform post‑processing activities such as powder removal, support removal, part cut off, and part finishing including hands‑on metal deburring when needed
Systematically identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machine or process issues that arise in a complex and modular manufacturing environment
Complete preventative maintenance activities, work with OEMs to schedule necessary service, and maintain spares and consumables inventory for machines
Maintain cleanliness of work area, tools, and product throughout the manufacturing process
Desire to work flexible hours as needed to support high machine utilizations
Required Qualifications
Experience in a trade skill including but not limited to machining, inspection, mechanic, welding, etc.
Demonstrated hands‑on ability by completing a project to build/rebuild complex machinery or mechanical system, examples include rebuilding an engine, repairing a Mill or Lathe, large home renovation, etc.
Desire to perform hands‑on work for most of the day
Experience in programming and operation of CNC Machines and/or Machining Equipment
Some experience in any category of 3D printing
Able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs
Ability to maintain physical activity and stand for extended periods
Valid driver’s license; good driving record
Drug testing required
Desired Experience
2+ years of operating CNC Mill, Lathe, EDM, etc.
1+ years 2D/3D CAD CAM Programming
Experience with welding and fabrication equipment
Experience with metal laser powder bed fusion (LBPF) systems and equipment
Experience with hands‑on part finishing (deburring, grit blasting, polishing)
Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Excel, or an ERP system
Classification: Full‑Time, Non‑Exempt
