Overview

Job Title: Ontologist We are seeking an experienced Ontologist to design and maintain ontologies, taxonomies, and knowledge models that enable consistent data understanding across systems, teams, and products. This role is critical in shaping how our organization structures, connects, and interprets information, ensuring data is organized for analytics, AI, and enterprise knowledge management. Key Responsibilities

Ontology & Knowledge Modeling: Develop, maintain, and evolve ontologies, taxonomies, vocabularies, and controlled metadata structures. Translate complex business concepts into formal knowledge models that support interoperability and semantic clarity. Define entity types, relationships, attributes, and rules aligned with organizational logic and domain requirements. Data & Semantic Architecture: Collaborate with Data Engineers, BI Engineers, and Business Analysts to integrate ontologies into data pipelines, knowledge graphs, and AI systems. Ensure semantic consistency across platforms, APIs, and data sources. Governance & Standards: Establish and maintain metadata standards, naming conventions, and classification guidelines. Conduct audits to ensure data quality and adherence to ontology governance. Document ontology structures, decision rationales, and change management processes. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with subject-matter experts to capture domain knowledge and validate conceptual models. Provide training and guidance on ontology use, metadata best practices, and semantic technologies. Qualifications

Required

Proficient experience designing ontologies, taxonomies, or knowledge models in a professional setting. Familiarity with semantic technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL, SHACL) and knowledge graph platforms. Strong analytical and conceptual modeling skills. Ability to translate abstract concepts into structured, scalable frameworks. Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. Preferred

Background in information science, linguistics, computer science, library science, or related field. Experience with enterprise metadata management and/or AI/ML applications. Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., SKOS, schema.org). Experience with domain-specific ontologies (e-commerce, healthcare, finance). Success in This Role Looks Like
