Working under the direction of a nurse, this position contributes to the hospital’s mission by providing both clinical and administrative assistance on the unit. The clinical assistance involves performing basic procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients, while the administrative support involves maintaining accurate and timely electronic medical records and acting as the unit coordinator for non‑clinical issues.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

High School Diploma or Gummutism

Must be one of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant, nursing student who has completed a medical‑surgical rotation, three months of clinical experience, or graduate of the Winchester Hospital’s Clinical Associate Training Program.

Preferred:

At least one year of previous work experience in an administrative support role.

Required:

English proficiency, basic computer knowledge, excellent communication and customer‑service skills.

Credentials

Certified Nursing Assistant (preferred)

Basic Life Support certification (required)

Population Specific Requirements Requirements differ based on patient population: Neonate, Infant, Children, Adolescent (13‑18 yrs), Adult, Geriatric, A4, or Intensive Care Unit. Refer to the unit’s specific guidelines for details.

Other Requirements

On‑call: N/A

Schedule: Based on department needs; holiday rotation required.

Travel: May be asked to cover other units.

Reporting: Reports to the Nurse Manager; works under the direction of a nurse; does not supervise others.

Responsibilities

Provide quality and safe patient care under the direction of a nurse; demonstrate empathy, compassion, and respect.

Welcome and orient patients, family members, and significant others.

Contribute to meeting patients’ physical, emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs.

Observe patients and report findings and/or concerns to the nurse promptly.

Demonstrate purposeful rounding and respond to call lights promptly.

Perform clinical duties such as: assisting with activities of daily living, repositioning and ambulating patients, making occupied and unoccupied beds, transporting patients/supplies/equipment, collecting and labeling specimens, retrieving and signing out blood products, performing point‑of‑care testing, obtaining vital signs and weights Mind, maintaining accurate intake and output measurements, removal of Foley catheters and saline locks, performing EKGs, maintaining a clean environment, setting up/breaking down rooms, assisting in post‑mortem care, documenting accurately, and assisting with procedures.

Perform administrative duties including answering calls, greeting and directing visitors, processing orders, coordinating patient placement, maintaining charts, paging physicians for consults, scheduling tests, arranging transport, preparing discharge records, prioritizing emergency functions, completing clerical tasks, triaging mail, maintaining inventory, and responding to equipment issues.

Follow hospital policies and procedures; coordinate work schedules; minimize harm events; adhere to infection control protocols.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Capable of performing all duties listed using the WE Odessa Behaviors.

Expected contact with blood, bodily fluids, potentially hazardous chemicals, and other infectious materials.

Pay Range $19.50 – $26.24 per hour (base hourly wage).
