two Vascular Neurology physicians
to join and expand our highly respected Stroke Program:
Clinical Vascular Neurologist
Stroke Medical Director – Vascular Neurology
These positions offer the opportunity to practice and lead within one of the busiest and most advanced stroke programs in the Mid-Atlantic.
About the Stroke Program: ChristianaCare is home to the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the state of Delaware, consistently earning the highest American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® stroke awards for more than five consecutive years. Our system manages 3,000+ stroke alerts annually, with 225+ TNK cases and 225+ mechanical thrombectomies each year.
You will join a collaborative, hospital-based team of 10 Vascular Neurologists and Neurohospitalists, supported by:
A dedicated Neurointensive Care Unit
Transitional neuro unit and inpatient neuro beds
The state’s only Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
A robust internal tele-stroke network
Subspecialty neurology colleagues across epilepsy, movement disorders, neuromuscular, headache, neuro-ophthalmology, and autoimmune neurology
Clinical Vascular Neurologist: This role focuses on acute stroke care, inpatient neurology consults, and follow-up through dedicated stroke services, including acute stroke management, a primary stroke service, and stroke clinic. Clinical work is primarily on-site at the Newark and Wilmington campuses, with expanding virtual overnight coverage models designed to support physician wellness and work-life balance.
Stroke Medical Director – Vascular Neurology: This 80% clinical / 20% administrative leadership role offers the opportunity to lead stroke systems and quality initiatives across ChristianaCare’s expanding network, including:
Christiana Hospital
– 1,039-bed Comprehensive Stroke Center
Wilmington Hospital
– 321-bed Primary Stroke Center
Middletown Free-Standing Emergency Department
– Acute Stroke Ready
Union Hospital (MD)
– Maryland-accredited Stroke Program
The Stroke Medical Director will oversee stroke quality, accreditation compliance, protocol optimization, tele-stroke operations, education for physicians and APPs, and system-wide stroke strategy, while maintaining active clinical practice.
Qualifications:
MD or DO
Board Eligible/Board Certified in Neurology
Fellowship training in Vascular Neurology
Leadership experience preferred for the Medical Director role
Strong communication skills and commitment to collaborative, multidisciplinary care
