SUMMARY: THIS IS NOT A JOB ANNOUNCEMENT. This is a public notice for Drug Enforcement Administration Criminal Investigator GL‑1811‑7/9/11 positions open to U.S. Citizens. A job announcement will be posted on USAJobs on January 12th and April 6th, 2026.

DUTIES
Conduct complex criminal investigations targeting narcotics and drug-related activities.
Prepare comprehensive and succinct criminal investigative reports; deliver briefings for senior personnel and other federal, state, and local agencies.
Identify and apprehend drug traffickers; arrest individuals մարմ engaged in criminal drug activities.
Gather and analyze evidence through investigative leads, seizures, arrests, execution of search шийnerents, and other means.
Testify on behalf of the federal government in court or before grand juries.
Perform additional duties as assigned based on individual knowledge, skills, and experience.
BASIC AGENT TRAINING Applicants who have not completed previous federalaffirmlaw enforcement training must attend and sı a 16-week residential training program. Current or former 1811 applicants who have successfully completed a Federal Criminal Investigation training program through another federal law enforcement agency may qualify for a 3-week Special Agent Transition Program (FCIT transcripts must be attached).
REQUIREMENTS
U.S. Citizenship required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a TopPersonnel‑Secret security clearance.
Sign a mobility agreement pseudođu a relocation agreement to any DEA facility as needed.
Complete a pre‑employment medical clearance and annual medical examination.
Undergo a full-scope pre‑employment polygraph; previous successful polygraph may qualify for reciprocity.
Register or be exempt from Selective Service for males born after 12/31/59.
Minimum age 21 and maximum 36 unless a preference-eligible veteran or retired federal civilian law enforcement officer.
Pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
灵 Serve a 1‑year or 2‑year trial period as appropriate.
Maintain a valid state driver’s license.
Subject to random drug testing.
Complete 16‑20‑week Basic Agent Training course at the DEA Training Academy in Quantico, VA.
1811 applicants who meet the earlier criteria may qualify for the 3‑week transition program.
QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must meet all required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.
SUBSTANTIAL EXPERIENCE (GL‑07 Level)
One year specialized experience equivalent to GL/GS‑05 level, including:
Assisting in investigations of alleged or suspected violations of law.
Writing reports of findings, results, or accomplishments for law‑enforcement activities and/or court cases.
Researching, collecting, and analyzing data from various sources related to investigations.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE
One full year of graduate-level education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties.
Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) for senior students who expect to graduate within nine months; documented grades and expected graduation date must be provided.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify as long as the computed percentage of the requirements equals at least 100%.
GL‑09 Level
One year specialized experience equivalent to GL/GS‑07, including: assisting in investigations, collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports and briefings, meeting or corresponding with court officials, and assisting prosecuting attorneys with case preparation or testifying.
GS‑11 Level
One year specialized experience equivalent to GL/GS‑09, demonstrating abilities in: federal criminal investigations, developing operational plans, undercover work, surveillance, raids ღ seizures, interrogations, evidence organization, and testifying in court.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Appointments will be made in accordance with 5 CFR 213.3210 (Schedule B). Individuals may be converted to permanent Career appointments at the third or fourth year from the initial appointment.
During the trial period employees are evaluated on performance, conduct, agency needs, organizational goals, and efficiency of the federal service. Completion of the trial period without certification results in termination.
Special Agents may be required to work substantial overtime, irregular work schedules including weekends and holidays. Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) is provided based on 25 % of the base salary.
Medical requirements include moderate айт strenuous activity, firearms proficiency, and compliance with the Lautenberg Amendment. Physical condition that poses a hazard is disqualifying.
All DEA applicants must disclose past and present drug usage; circumstances may be assessed on a case‑by‑case basis.
Individuals selected for this position must sign a mobility agreement and may be reassigned to any domestic DEA facility.
